AWEIK MENTORSHIP PROGRAMME
In the past decade, the energy and extractives industry in Kenya is fast evolving with new laws and regulations coming into force, technological advancements, offering of the sector related courses by local universities as well as women workforce penetrating the sector. Kenya’s extractives industry lacks a structured mentorship program specifically designed for female students and young professionals looking to join the sector or making their debut in this industry dominated by men. AWEIK wishes to cure this through the AWEIK Mentorship Program (AMP)
The overall goal of this program is to provide the participants with a much sought-after opportunity to connect with successful professionals and industry leaders as mentors, who are in a position to empower them with requisite tools and promote them from a professional and personal development perspective.
Objectives of this program:
The overall objective of the AWEIK Mentorship program (AMP), is to develop capacity and prepare young women (students and young professionals) to work in the extractives sector. The specific objectives include:
- To develop young women’s career prospects and professional growth within the extractives industry
- Provide a platform for networking (among mentee cohort, with mentor cohort and industry)
- Boosting young women’s professional and career vision, confidence and outlook in a male-dominated industry
- Provide information on emerging and potential areas of career and professional pursuits.
