AWEIK in partnership with Australian Government and managed through the Department of Foreign Affairs & Trade (DFAT) overseas posts, is implementing the Project “Equitable Prosperity” through the Direct Aid Program (DAP) which aims to spur economic growth, job creation, access to markets and financing by improving the business, environmental and gender performance of SME’s in the extractive sector. The project’s scope covers women’s community-based Organizations and self-help groups involved in artisanal and small scale mining in Taita Taveta County.
Objectives
- To enhance market opportunities for women (grassroots and SME’s) in the extractives towards economically raising their status.
- To enhance linkages and partnerships with industry for women entrepreneurs and professionals to achieve financial sustainability through various initiatives.
- Strengthen the association by equipping the association with adequate resources to meet its mandate of supporting grassroots women to business entry and licensing.
- To promote sustainable environmental practices among AWEIK women enterprises involved in the extractive sector in the targeted county of Taita Taveta.
